Rise to a delicious breakfast at the hotel of a melody of fresh fruit (which I wouldn't eat off the street) includng papaya, watermelon, pineapple and delicious cakes with mango jam. I recalled that my first appointment for the day at the San Ignacio de Loyola(USIL) was about 35 minutes away. The hotel arranged for the driver (advisory: avoid taking taxis directly from the street). Once arriving at USIL, security verfied my arrival and I entered into an office of what now seems to be an old friend. I had met Daniel Diaz Conesco Terry during my trip in March.
His program is phenomenal. Working in alliance with Regent's University in Virginia Beach, USIL trained over 9,000 entrepreneurs in the basics; 300 submit prposal; 5 sponsored for launch and funded. USIL set up several informal meetings for me. We discussed the business practices of a natural foods product company, tourism development for country gifts; and even an entrepreneur who developed a zoo in Cusco. I found common heart with the USIL Directors of consulting, entrepreneurship and research as they shared their views on the importance of entrepreneurship to Peru, the value of exploring the motivations, and the involvement with other stakeholders (ie: NGO's). I received an invitation to join them all at their case competition on Saturday. (in spanish--another way to immerse myself)
After a full day of meetings, gaining validation that there are many research questions rich in this land of Peru, I am confident that I will have an important future research stream exploring this developing country. I head to the famous Larcomar ocean front center of shopping and restaurants which is only a short walk away. The Larcomar restaurant provides me an exquisite ocean view, a delicious vegetarian lasagne meal, local beverages and an exciting perch to witness the half dozen parasailers who resemble birds darting in and out of the restaurant's paremeter. Tomorrow--another day of exploration!
